You probably say it every day when talking about the time  but do you know actually what AM and PM stands for? Checkout the meaning of AM and PM as used in telling the time.

When writing the time of the day using the 12 hour cycle, you will need to use the AM or PM to help clarify the time for who ever may need it. However when you use the 24 hour time, the use of the AM or PM will be irrelevant. Infact, using it will even confue others.

For instance, if you write 15 hours GMT for instance, we can tell the time by taking 12 hours out of the 15 hours, thus 15-12 will be 3. However each time the provided time in GMT mode is more than 12 such as 13 hours or 15 hours GMT, it means the time is afternoon thus the 15-13 example means 3 PM.

AM and PM, used in this 12-hour clock, stems from the Latin language, just like many words and phrases in the English language.

AM is short for a Latin phrase, “ante meridiem” (or “before midday”), while PM is short for “post meridiem” (or “after midday”).

Always add AM or PM to the time when you use the 12 hour time period but you will not need them if you are using the 24 hour time system.
