Bryan Acheampong’s Purported US Air Force Certificate Appears Online

A purported US military Air Force certificate has appeared online with Bryan Acheampong’s name on it, the minister of food and agriculture.

The certificate was first shared by Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) national communications officer, in response to Acheampong’s recent political statements.

Acheampong, a parliamentarian representing Abetifi, had stated that his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), would never cede control to the opposition NDC after the 2024 General Elections.

This statement received criticism, with NDC members daring Acheampong and others to try to rig the election. Gyamfi called Acheampong’s comments “ludicrous tantrums” and emphasized the value of sovereignty in his post to make the point that the people, not a political party, held the power.

Acheampong claims that the NPP will use all of its resources to win the general elections in 2024 and that his party has the men to compete head-to-head with the opposition.

He told party supporters that “We will demonstrate to the NDC that we have the men if they want to intimidate, harass, or do anything stupid during the 2024 elections.. We are not going to hand over power to the NDC. We will use any means necessary to keep the NPP in power.” Gyamfi made fun of Acheampong’s military service, which lasted for around two years in the US Air Force, and said that the majority of the Ghanaian electorate will surely vote for change come 2024 and nobody can subvert their will.

The certificate that appeared online shows that Acheampong was an Airman Basic, the lowest enlisted rank in the United States Air Force immediately below airman, for about two years.

Acheampong’s statement about not ceding power to the NDC after the 2024 General Elections has been met with criticism, with some daring him and others to try to rig the election.

Gyamfi emphasized the value of sovereignty in his post to make the point that the people, not a political party, held the power.
