For Fear of Discrimination, Rastafarian Boys won’t go to Achimota SHS – Parents
Fear of Discrimination, et al., Rastafarian Boys won’t go to Achimota SHS
The bruhaha about whether to enroll two Rastafarian Boys in Achimota SHS has taken a new turn as the parents of the boys have vowed not to allow their sons back to Achimota School.
The two brilliant students were denied admission to the Achimota Senior High School although the GES placed them in Achimota on academic merits.
According to the parents, they would prefer the international school that is ready to accept their children and offer them scholarships.
Mr. Nkrabea, one of the fathers, said they had discussions with the Ghana Education Service on Thursday to resolve outstanding issues however they failed to reach an agreement.
The parents sighted fears of discrimination should their wards be enrolled in the school.
“I would expect to get my children back in school immediately, but I’m not sure about Achimota because of the way everything went down, and I don’t think the children will be comfortable going back there and I won’t be comfortable sending them there unless there is a situation where I know they will be treated fairly and justly, and I just don’t get that from the school. So it is just uncomfortable for us to let our children go there.”
Tyrone Iras Marchguy’s father has also confirmed has that some international schools have approached him to offer his son a full scholarship. He said they were going to consider that opportunity rather than the Achimota School.
“We’ve been approached by an international school who are prepared to give a full scholarship. We are looking to let him go to the international school because from my investigation, their curriculum is higher than what the other schools are doing so by the end of this week I will personally go to the school to go and check on everything and clear everything up with them.” He said.
