Has GES Postponed The Reopening Date Of Basic Schools In Ghana?

Basic Schools in Ghana are expected to reopen school for the third term of the 2023 academic year on Tuesday, 27th  June, 2023.

However, following the declaration of Wednesday, 28th June, 2023 as a Statutory Public Holiday, some stakeholders want to know if the Ghana Education Service has postponed the reopening date of basic schools. Some persons believe that since basic schools will resume on Tuesday and then break on Wednesday to observe the Eid-ul-Adha occasion, it will be best for GES to postponed the reopening date.

Latest update from the Ghana Education Service reveals that Basic schools in Ghana will officially begin the third term of the 2023 academic year on Tuesday, 27th June, 2023. The reopening date has not been postponed. This will be the last term in the 2023 academic year which ends on 15th September, 2023.

Basic schools are expected to spend a total of 11 weeks and 2 days in the third term of the 2023 academic year. The academic year will officially end on 15th September, 2023.

2023 Academic Calendar For Basic Schools

This comes after the ministry of interior announced to the general public that on “Wednesday, 28th June, 2023 which marks Eid-ul-Adha, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country“.

The Ghana Education Service is doing everything possible to restore the old academic calendar. Due to this, the academic calendar for both basic schools and senior high schools will end in September this year. This will help the Ghana Education Service restore the old academic year whereby the academic starts in September or October each year.

2023 BECE

The 2023 BECE candidates will also resume the third term of the 2023 academic year on Monday, 27th August, 2023. They will be in school until the BECE is over on 11th August, 2023.

This year’s BECE will be written on Monday, 7th August, 2023 and end on Friday, 11th August, 2023.

The official timetable is out. All BECE candidates are encouraged to be by their books at this last minutes to their exams. There is a cut of grade for SHS admission. Candidates may not get the SHS they desire of they do not perform well at the BECE.
