Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has disclosed that the Senior High School (SHS) education in Ghana under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo is free.
However, he has furthered that parents with goodwill and who want to donate to schools are allowed to do so.
He added that the ruling NPP government birthed the Free SHS policy so that all Ghanaian students irrespective of status will be offered an opportunity to access second cycle education at no cost to their parents or guardians after their BECE.
“The Free SHS is a good policy, and we are already reaping the benefits. The President made it clear that everyone irrespective of the wealth of your parents should enjoy free education.
The minister said there is no discrimination in the implementation of the Free SHS policy.

Dr. Adutwum during the interview monitored by this portal also said the Free SHS has come to stay but it does not imply parents cannot help or donate to the school their child attends.
Stakeholders during social media discussions on the issue have called on the minister of education to bring back the PTA system and allow parents to pay P.T.Levies instead of calling for donations. Although parents donate to schools, this suggestion is attracting a lot of debate as a result of the Free SHS policy.
