All public basic schools and most private schools in Ghana will reopen today, 3rd October, 2023. Today marks the beginning of the 2023/2024 academic year for basic schools in Ghana.
2023/2024 Basic Schools First Term Vacation Date
The Ghana Education Service is yet to release the 2023/2024 academic calendar for basic schools and even SHS. However, it is expected that basic schools, who resumed on 3rd October, will go on vacation on Thursday, 21st December, 2023. They will spend a total of 11 weeks in school.

The second term will begin on. 9th January, 2024 and end on 11th April, 2024. The third term will also begin on 7th May, 2024 and end on 25th July, 2024. GES is yet to confirm these dates or otherwise.
2023/2024 ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS (SHS)
Senior High Schools will officially end their academic year on 30th November, 2023. Most batches have ended their academic year and are currently on vacation. However, SHS 1 students in double track schools will end theirs on 30th November, 2023. The starting date for SHS 2023/2024 academic year is yet to be revealed by the Ghana Education Service.

The Ghana Education Service is doing everything possible to restore the old academic calendar. Due to this, the academic calendar for both basic schools and senior high schools will end early this year. This will help the Ghana Education Service restore the old academic year whereby the academic starts in September or October each year. It is believed the SHS academic year will also be restored back to normal next year.
