Akufo-Addo Outlines Top 15 Achievements in The Education Sector

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has outlined top fifteen achievement in the education sector under his government.

He stated that, his government’s commitment to the education has been exemplary, because they are of the firm belief that quality education is the enabler that the difference between developed and developing nation.

 

Among the top achievements is the improvement in the teacher education comprising the Ghana Teacher Prize which is being celebrated on World Teachers Day.

The president is glad that his government took a keen interest in this award scheme, and rebranded it to meet global standards.

He stated again that, this is the sixth edition of Ghana Teacher Prize after the rebranding of the Best rebranding of the Best Teacher Awards.

Since the rebranding in 2018, not a year passed without a Ghanaian teacher coming through at global or continental teacher awards competitions.

Speaking at the sixth edition of Ghana Teacher Prize celebration on October 5, 2023 to commemorate teachers for their immeasurable contribution towards the provision of inclusive, equitable, quality education and lifelong learning for all, he highlighted some top achievements in education sector.

The top 15 achievements in the education sector as highlighted by the President on the Teacher Prize Day in details

  1. Free SHS Policy
  2. The restoration of teacher and Nursing Trainees’ allowance.
  3. The implementation of GALOP in ten thousand (10,000) low-performing basic schools.
  4. The institutionalization of National Standardized Test (NST) for P2, P4 and P6.
  5. The introduction and implementation of the Standard-Based Curriculum.
  6. The introduction of STEM Education and construction of STEM High Schools, of which ten Model STEM Schools at various stages of competition, contacts for Ten 21st Century Model Schools have been awarded, and twenty STEM Centers are under construction.
  7. The introduction and prioritization of free Technical Vocational Education and Training.
  8. The creation of Ghana TVET Service to be responsible for TVET and Skills training policy implementation.

  1. The distribution of hundreds of school buses and other vehicles for schools.
  2. The implementation of No Guarantor Policy Students’ Loans for tertiary education.
  3. The introduction of the Professional Development Allowances (PDA) for teachers.
  4. The introduction of the One-Teacher – One – Laptop Policy.
  5. The strengthening of the National Inspectorate Authority to certify quality at our educational institutions.
  6. The modernization and retooling of Ghana Library Authority to support learning and research.
  7. The distribution of sixteen (16) Nissan Prado to all Regional directors of education and Pickups to all Agencies and Directorates of the ministry of Education, Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education.
