Samia Pledges to foster deeper economic trade with Zambia

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan attended Zambia ‘s 59th Independence Anniversary celebrations and expressed her commitment to strengthening economic trade between the two countries. She emphasized the historical ties shared by Tanzania and Zambia and recognized the importance of unity and diversity in shaping the nations.
President Hassan highlighted the significance of equitable resource distribution and putting people at the center of all initiatives. She announced her administration’s decision to allocate 20 hectares of land at the Kwala Dry Port in Tanzania for consignments destined for Zambia, with an extended free storage period for Zambian importers, fostering trade opportunities.

President Hassan also pledged to enhance energy security by linking African power pools and modernizing the Tanzania-Zambia Mafuta pipeline (Tazama) while constructing a new natural gas pipeline from Dar es Salaam to Zambia. She assured Zambia of Tanzania’s continued support and partnership.

In response, President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia expressed gratitude for President Hassan’s presence, emphasizing the strong ties between their countries.
He stressed the importance of cooperation in rehabilitating and developing shared resources, such as the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (Tazara), pipeline expansion, and clean energy opportunities. Both leaders emphasized the significance of regional integration, global partnerships, peace, security, and stability. They called on global leaders to work toward maintaining peace and stability to support economic transformation and prosperity.
