Private Universities Demand that Public Institutions Take into Account their Hefty Affiliation Costs.
The high expense of affiliation fees paid by public universities has drawn criticism from Dr. Kodzo Alabo, President of the Sundoulous Advanced Leadership Training (SALT) Institute, which is now a University College. He claims that this has a negative effect on private colleges.
In an effort to lessen the financial load on private institutions, he made a plea to public universities to exercise consideration in setting their fees.

In a visit to the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Dr. Alabo made a plea to seek counsel after the SALT Institute was granted university status.
He highlighted the difficulties encountered by private colleges in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, saying, “Private universities are generally battling to balance their books, therefore if upon that, affiliation fees are also very expensive, then it produces more problems for us.”
Dr. Alabo emphasised the competitive environment in which public universities are growing into once served by private establishments.
He brought out the disadvantages that private institutions have because of their lower admission requirements and the extra difficulties that come with paying large affiliation fees.

Founded in 2003, the SALT Institute now offers many graduate programmes and has applied for approval of new programmes.
In order to prevent consequences, GTEC Director-General Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai asked the Institute to abide with all university governance rules.
