Reject change of election date suggestion by EC – Kelvin Taylor to NDC

Kelvin Taylor, of With All Due Respect fame, has called on the NDC and other political parties to reject every intention of the EC to change the election date from December 7th to another. He made this  public during his 29th January 2024 programme on Facebook.

According to the EC, there are reasons why the date needs to be changed. Per the information made public by Kelvin Taylor, the EC has disclosed that just in case there is a runoff, it will need about three weeks to prepare for the runoff. Again, he disclosed that the EC was also considering the period for the inauguration and transition from one government to the other after the election.

However, Kelvin Taylor questioned the role of the EC in issues regarding the inauguration and transition.

“Transition of government is not the work of the EC; hence, why should the EC be planning transaction issues when the government is to set up a transition committee?” Kelvin Taylor was quizzed.

According to him, the EC has invited parties to come and discuss the possibility of changing the election date. He has called on the NDC to stand up against every suggestion regarding the changing of the voting date.

In a related story, the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church has also raised concerns about the election being held on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, which happens to be their day of worship. Kelvin Taylor also stated that some so-called Men of God have indicated that John Dramani Mahama of the NDC will win the election if it is held on December 7th because that day is a Saturday, which is John Mahama’s day of birth.

The facts of reality are that other elections since 1957 have been held on Saturdays and Sundays without any issue; hence, the concerns of the members of the SDA church cannot lead to the change of the election date.

Kelvin Taylor suggested that the EC is trying to cook and steal the verdict for the NPP, hence the change in the election date.

While challenging the current suggestion for the chance of the election dates and processes, he suggested that the EC should not consider changing the election date but instead expand those who qualify for special voting to include religious bodies such as the SDA Church.

He believes this is the best and most proactive way to deal with such challenges.
