New Vacation Date for Single Track SHS3 Students

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a new vacation date for final-year students in single-track SHSs.
The need to give all final-year students attending Single Track schools enough time to get ready for their upcoming WASSCE for school candidates, according to the GES, has necessitated the change in the dates.

Vacation Date for Single Track SHS3 Students

The date of the SHS3 students’ vacation in single-track schools was March 5, 2024, according to the GES’s initial calendar release. However, per the new directive, the students will remain in school until March 28, 2024.

They will start their vacation on March 29 for the semester. The nearly two weeks leading up to their semester mean that both students and teachers will stay in school longer and also be able to review their coursework, engage in revision exercises, and adequately prepare for the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

It is not clear how teachers in single-track SHSs will take the change since many have planned their activities and programmes based on the originally released calendar. The Easter celebrations, which begin on March 29, appear to have influenced the chance.

The extension of the holidays to March 28 will also ensure that students do not go home and return to campus only to have to go back for the Easter holidays.

Following their departure on March 28th, all students who are in their last year of schooling in single-track schools will return to school on April 17th, 2024, to continue their academic work.

As a result of the modification to the calendar for these students who are in their last year of schooling, the number of vacation days that were originally planned for them will be reduced. The reopening date for the second semester was originally slated for May 2, 2024.

Changes to Single-Track SHS3 Semester Vacation

Nevertheless, it is of the utmost importance to keep in mind that this instruction is only applicable to students who are in their last year of study at single-track colleges. There will be no modifications made to the dates that pupils in Forms 1 and 2 attend these schools for their vacations or reopenings; they will continue to adhere to the original academic schedule that they were given.

The holiday for students in Form 2 is still scheduled to take place on March 5, 2024, and the date that they will return to school is May 2, 2024. In the same vein, pupils in Form 1 will have a break for holiday on March 15, 2024, and will return to school on May 2, 2024 respectively.
