Ghana Education News: 4 Factual Reasons you are an Unemployed Graduate: Dilemma of Graduates
The dream of every graduate after school is to be employed. But this is not always so. Only a few ones who are lucky get employed immediately, either by someone or by themselves, others too will have to hustle for years, in fact, years.
The unemployment rate is fast increasing. Sometimes these frustrated graduates go into depression, asking themselves questions, whether going to school was a curse or a blessing?
Word of encouragement
My dear, if your first throwing couldn’t catch you a fish, maybe your second throw will harvest you plenty of fish.
Also, never be intimidated by the successes of others, because the only difference between Here and There is T, which stands for Time.
Remember, you have to swim across the stream of failure before you can reach the bank of success.
In fact, many failed because they do not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. Never in your life think the certificate you have acquired is valueless. It will one day serve its rightful purpose – earn you a job.
4 Factual Reasons you are an Unemployed Graduate
Sometimes, the delay comes as a result of a test of patience from the Almighty which will later turn to Gold…..
What is expected of you as a graduate?
Most graduates may also hunt for job opportunities for a very long time just because of the following.
1. Lightweight documents
Many graduates think the certificate alone is enough to earn them a job. Many employers lookout for other ingredients. One of it is Curriculum Vitae (C.V).
As a graduate seeking for a job, you must have a well-written C.V. This contains a summary of your personal and academic information and speaks volumes about you.
The job market nowadays is highly competitive, employers receive more than necessary applications just for a single job. So, they have little or no time to be going through all the applications in detail.
They may only sample the “well organized” ones and discard the rest. You ha to be unique and stand out. For instance, if all the applicants wrote their C.Vs in black and white, why don’t you write yours in colour so that it can attract attention?
2. Volunteerism.
Most students/graduates don’t like rendering their services for free. Volunteering exposes you to the job market. It sometimes opens unimaginable doors of opportunities. You may even be lucky to be maintained as a permanent worker if the opportunity opens.
Aside from that, if you are not employed by that department, the knowledge gained could be used to build your C.V. and add more weight. Most employers are looking for experienced hands. Volunteering is an opportunity to gather first-hand real time job experience.
3. Networking.
As a graduate, you need to be connected. It will interest you to know, in this technological era, some graduates do not have a common Facebook account, they don’t often visit their, WhatsApp group and email to see what is going on.
They just don’t care, they don’t call friends to ask what is going on.
Sorry, you are missing out on a lot of opportunities. Networking with people via all means possible increases your chances of getting employment opportunities.
4. You must be emotionally intelligent
Emotional intelligence here means the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one’s emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
Emotional intelligence is the key to both personal and professional success.
Here, you know who you are, you are a job seeker, so always be humble, tolerant, smart, and don’t let people remind you of your duties.
You are an asset to your family, not a liability. This is a season of success, you will be issued an appointment letter to set yourself up with a profitable venture very soon. Allah is involved. Aameen.
Yours truly
