Richard Ackom, Deputy CHRAJ Commissioner Is Dead

Tragic news reverberates as the Deputy Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Richard Ackom Quayson, is dead as per a report by the state news agency, GNA. The announcement, dated March 22, 2024, and signed by Mr. Henry Ashley, the Director of Human Resources and Administration, on behalf of the Commissioner, conveyed the somber message.

In the statement, it was expressed, “It is with a heavy heart that we inform members of staff of the death of our Deputy Commissioner (APR), Richard Ackom Quayson, who passed away unexpectedly on the 21st of March 2024, after a short illness.” This unforeseen loss has undoubtedly cast a pall over the Commission and beyond.

Richard Ackom Quayson’s tenure at the Commission spanned several decades, beginning in 1993 when he joined as a senior legal officer. Prior to this, he served as a legal officer at the Office of the Ombudsman, the predecessor institution of CHRAJ, from 1987 to 1993. His dedication and expertise were evident as he ascended within the organization’s ranks, ultimately serving as the regional director for the Western and Central Regions before his appointment as Deputy Commissioner in August 2005.
