Teachers will not write lesson notes again – Dr. Bawumia declares

Teachers will not write lesson notes

Teachers will not write lesson notes again is the latest declaration made by the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Bawumia. He made this known during the launch of the One Teacher One Laptop initiative.

At the launch of the TM1 (Teacher Mate1) laptops in Accra, the vice president delivered some 350,000 laptops to the Ghana Education Service for distribution to pre-tertiary school teachers across the country.

Teachers are expected to download all Lesson Plans to be provided by the NaCCA onto their laptops to be sued for teaching. This means the days when teachers are compelled to write lesson notes with the pen and teacher’s notebooks are over.

The Vice President’s assertion that teachers will not write lesson notes again after receiving the Teachers Mate 1 is a huge relief for teachers. Currently, there are many well-scripted lesson notes been used by teachers to deliver lessons to learners however, there has been a bone of contention as to whether teachers should rewrite such lesson plans into their lesson notes. Some headteachers have also rejected the scripted lesson notes in recent times.

The One Teacher One Laptop would pledge by the government has been welcomes but not without controversy surrounding the procurement procedures and the decision of the government to make the laptops compulsory for teachers.

This has compelled teacher unions like the Innovative teachers to raise the red flag through CHRAJ and called for the institution to investigate the matter. It also called on the GES not to make the laptops compulsory for teachers.
