Public Transport Fares To Be Reduced By 15.3% On Monday

A press release has been made titled, “REDUCTION IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT FARES” which implies transport fares will be reduced by 15.3% on Monday, 19th December, 2022.

Transport fares were increased by 19% on 29th October 2022 due to the increase in fuel. This was a result of the Cedi depreciating drastically to the dollar. Most drivers were really having a hard time because of the increase in fuel prices.

The above decision to decrease transport fares is as a result of the reduction in fuel prices. The reduction in transport fares cover shared taxis, intra-city (tro-tro), intercity (long distance), haulage. All commercial transport operators are to comply with the new fares and
post same at their loading terminals.

Public Transport Fares To Be Reduced By 15.3% On Monday

“The General Public may recall that on Saturday. 29 October. 2022. a 19 percent upward adjustment in public transport fares took effect after intense negotiations with stakeholders.
With the recent reductions in the price of petroleum products, it became necessary to engage stakeholders to give consideration to a review of the fares in line with thee Administrative Instrument.

Consequently, series of negotiation metings were held with stakeholders to agree on an acceptable level of fare reduction commensurate with the current fuel prices. Following these negotiations and in consideration of the plight of Drivers, Commuters and the General Public, we have resolved to reduce the existing transport fares by 15.3 percent the new fares take effect from monday 191h December, 2022. The Fares cover the following types of Road Transport Operations:

1. SHARED TAXIS
2 INTRA-CITY (TRO-TRO)
3. INTERCITY (LONG DISTANC)
4. HAULAGE

We kindly request all Commercial Transport Operators to comply with the new fares and post same at their loading terminals. We further request all Operators. Commuters and the General Public to kindly cooperate for the successful implementation of the new fares.
