A/R: Ghanaian Nurse Commits Suicide Over Unpaid Allowance

Paul Dodzi, a Ghanaian nurse in his early twenties, has committed suicide over his unpaid allowance owed him by government.
According to report, Paul Dodzi, who is a national Service personnel at Church of God Hospital in Esieninpong in the Ejisu Municipality was found dead, hanging on a rope in a building at Asankragua in the Asanti Akim Municipality.
According to some is his colleagues, Paul had been complaining about the delay in the payment of his nursing rotational allowance. According to report, government has delayed the payment of their allowance for 11 months. This means, Paul depends on loans and other people for financial support. On Monday, 8th May, 2023, Paul was at work. However, on Tuesday and Wednesday, Paul failed to show up at work. That was when he hanger himself.

Paul comes from a town called Asankra in the Eastern Region of Ghana and that’s where this unexpected situation occurred.
It is known that Paul lost his parents when he was a toddler and he has hustled to reach this far.
According to his colleagues, Paul used to lament over unpaid allowances and his inability to source funds which mentally derailed him.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, May 13, Christopher Dankwah shared a photo and video depicting residents carrying the body of a deceased individual.

“This young man, full of potential and a bright future, has left us in such a tragic manner… What a system failure! If our beloved country were truly serious, the youth would raise their voices in protest to put an end to this political injustice! Why are the leaders rewarding themselves generously while leaving these young men and women starving, depriving them of their meager wages?
It’s a disgrace! Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Parliament of Ghana, we implore you to please pay our nurses and national service personnel! This young man resorted to taking his own life by hanging himself,” he wrote.
