Abraham Lincoln, the man who brought slavery to an end in America
The man who was visionary than anybody else to brought slavery to an end in America was called Abraham Lincoln.
He was born in Kentucky in 1809 in a very poor home. He got little chance of going to school so he taught himself by reading a lot of books he find.
Abraham Lincoln grew to be six feet tall and people sometimes made fun of him because of his height .
He studied hard and became a lawyer he also began to play a more important roles in politics.
Abraham Lincoln became famous for his speeches against allowing the new state as they were open up to make slavely lawful.
During the first half of the 19th century the USA was not settled and unified country.
The Americans who lived in the East had not open up all of the country. The places where they had not settle are called “Western territories”.
The slaves in America who were mainly in the Southern state which are called “Confiderate state”.
In the North, many people were against delivery and sometime helped slaves to escape from their Masters they also helped freed slaves to settle in West Africa from 1821 onwards in the state later to be called Liberia.
In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected as president of the United States. But the slave owners of the southern state did not not accept Lincoln who was against slavery as their president so they formed Confederacy and decided to govern themselves and have nothing to do with Lincoln’s government
To Lincoln, the union of states was very important indeed he had already said a house divided against itself cannot stand.
In 1863 when Lincoln issue a proclamation saying that all slaves within any state has been freed against the United States Slave.In the same year the important Battle of Gettysburg was fought and North defeated the South .
The war went on for nearly two years, the war went on for nearly two more years and in the end of the South had to surrender.
Slavery was ended in America in 1865 but then American negroes have been waging a slow but increasingly successful to struggle to be accepted as fully citizens of the USA
In November 1863 Lincoln went to Gettysburg, there he say a few words to the people of Gettysburg and encourage them that gradually they will be accepted as a citizen of USA.
Through Lincoln hardworking, slave trade ended in America and the world at large.
Lincoln was assassinated at the 65 on April 15,1865
