Accra College of Education and Beijing Normal University have signed a deal to set up the West African branch of the China-Africa Teacher Education Centre (CATEC) to improve teacher training, build skills, and boost international teamwork.
The agreement was part of a bigger partnership aimed at improving teacher education, joint research, and professional growth across Ghana and West Africa.
A key part of the partnership is creating a centre at Accra College of Education. This centre will train teachers, educators, and researchers using modern methods and global best practices.
Again, the partnership will help build skills through workshops, academic exchanges, research projects, and the use of new technologies like artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.
So, the two schools will work together to improve teacher education systems, share knowledge, strengthen professional skills, and support quality education across Ghana and West Africa.
The Principal of Accra College of Education, Professor Samuel Awinkene Atintono, and the Dean of the Faculty of Education at Beijing Normal University, Professor Zhu Xudong, signed for their schools.
Speaking at the signing, a Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi (speaking for the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu), said the project shows the government’s strong commitment to teacher education and skill building.
She said good teaching depends on how well teachers are prepared, stressing that “we cannot give what we do not have.” That’s why investing in teacher development remains a national priority.
