Ahiagbah Calls Out NDC
Ahiagbah Calls Out NDC, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly criticized what he sees as politically motivated actions by the ruling government under the National Democratic Congress (NDC). His remarks come in response to the recent arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi, a former NPP parliamentary hopeful commonly known as Adenta Kumi.

Kumi was picked up earlier today by operatives of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and charged with publishing false news. His arrest followed a petition he submitted to President John Mahama, in which he called for the dissolution of a committee set up to investigate Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. According to Kumi, two members of the committee and the lawyer for one of the petitioners were seen having a private meeting in a restaurant—an encounter he believed compromised the committee’s impartiality.
Speaking on the matter, Ahiagbah questioned the motives and timing of the arrest, implying that it was less about justice and more about political punishment. “Let’s be honest—when the state responds this way, it doesn’t feel like they’re enforcing the law. It feels like political revenge,” he said. “The NDC knows better. They’ve been in power before. They know the difference between proper law enforcement and political intimidation—but they’re choosing the latter.”
He further accused the NDC of trying to make an example out of opposition voices, using state security forces to send a message about who holds power. “This is not justice. This is about showing muscle. And that’s dangerous for our democracy,” Ahiagbah warned.

The NPP has previously accused the government of using security institutions to harass and intimidate political opponents. Ahiagbah echoed that concern, saying the arrest of Kumi is part of a worrying pattern. “Instead of responding to the petition appropriately, they’ve chosen to silence the messenger. That’s not the rule of law—it’s suppression.”
Kumi’s petition, submitted on May 19, is now at the center of a growing political storm. The fact that he was arrested so soon afterward has only intensified accusations of government retaliation.
