Akufo-Addo Turned Out To Be A Monumental Disappointment – Yvonne Nelson

In her recently published memoir, award-winning actress and producer Yvonne Nelson makes the argument that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disappointed in contrast to the person he was expected to be while in opposition.
She claims that Nana Akufo-Addo, who was promoted as an untainted leader and the solution to political and public sector corruption, has fallen short of expectations.
“He was said to be incorruptible, and Ghanaians thought he was going to be the antidote to mass stealing at the highest level, which is euphemized as corruption. Unfortunately for Ghana and those who trusted in him, he has turned out to be a monumental disappointment whose government’s unbridled borrowing, corruption, and reckless spending plunged the nation into economic dumsor,” she wrote in her book dubbed “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson.”
Many political critics believe that Yvonne Nelson’s activism played a significant role in President Akufo-Addo’s 2016 victory in his first election after losing his first two attempts.
Along with criticizing the John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress administration at the time, the actress and film producer also played a key role in organizing the infamous “Dumsor Vigil” on May 16, 2015.
The protest’s main organizers were from the entertainment and arts sectors, and its main goal was to put pressure on the government to solve the country’s current energy crisis.
However, Yvonne Nelson, whose actions were thought to be crucial to the NDC being voted out of office, has become critical of President Akufo-Addo’s administration since the 2016 election of the NPP into power and their reelection in 2020.
A close friend of the president contacted Yvonne Nelson about running as the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for the Ayawso West Wuogon Constituency in the 2020 general elections, among other revelations in her recently published book.
Although some of her detractors have tried to link her to the president and the NPP, the actress made it clear in her book that she “certainly does not wish to associate with a politician who is projected as one thing but becomes the polar opposite of that when elected into office.” She also noted her disappointment in Akufo-Addo’s leadership.
