Atik Warns NPP: Maintain Peace Ahead of Flagbearer Election
Former PNC General Secretary, Atik Mohammed, has issued a warning to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of their upcoming presidential election. With the showdown rapidly approaching and several prominent candidates vying for the position of flagbearer, Atik Mohammed stressed the importance of maintaining unity within the party.
As the NPP prepares for their election, tensions are running high, with Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central lawmaker, entering the race to challenge Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. In addition to these two prominent figures, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh are also competing for the party’s flagbearer position.

Atik Mohammed voiced his concerns during a discussion on Peace FM’s flagship program, “Kokrokoo,” cautioning the NPP’s leadership not to allow the election to result in internal conflict and chaos. He emphasized the potential risks of internal disunity within the party, especially as they approach the 2024 general election.

According to Atik Mohammed, it is essential that the NPP remains united, as heading into the 2024 election with internal divisions would not be in the party’s best interest. He urged party leaders to ensure that the upcoming contest is resolved through a peaceful and democratic process, rather than resorting to any form of physical confrontation.

In a time when Ghana’s political landscape is highly competitive and the stakes are significant, the need for internal party cohesion and a united front is crucial. Atik Mohammed’s warning serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining party unity, especially in the lead-up to a pivotal election. The NPP’s ability to maintain harmony and solidarity will be a critical factor in their pursuit of a successful outcome in the 2024 elections.
