The 2023 annual data on the state of Ghana Prisons

The 2023 annual data on the state of Ghana Prisons has revealed shocking stage of overcrowding among others details.

The data revealed Ghana’s prisons are overcrowded by 4,651 inmates as the total prison population was 14,916, nearly 45% more than the “normal” capacity of 10,265.

The Data from the Ghana Pris­ons Service show that inmates comprised 14,732 males and 184 females.

Convict prisoners constitute 88.56 per cent of the inmate pop­ulation of 13,210, made up of 13,053 males and 157 females.

Remand prisoners are 1,245; comprising 1,230 males and 15 females, while trial prisoners are 461 made up of 449 males and 12 females.

In the ‘special category’, 180 persons are on death row, includ­ing six females; 88, including one female, on life sentence; 215 male juveniles at correctional centres; and 919 foreigners, made up of 871 males and 48 females in pris­on.

Due to the reports of overcrowding in the prisons, there has been a new private member’s bill to amend the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30) to introduce an alternative sentencing regime for misdemeanours.

In a bid to provide superior customer service delivery, SSNIT is implementing a new system to enhance its operations and services.

As part of the new system implementation, a new technology known as the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) will be used to verify the identity of members and pensioners.

 

 

How to Register and be a SSNIT Contributor - flatprofile

This system stores the biometric information of all members and pensioners in a database for the verification of the identity of any member or pensioner at any SSNIT branch throughout Ghana.

In order for SSNIT to achieve this objective, it is necessary to collect the biometric information of all existing members and pensioners as part of the implementation of the new system.

With the aid of the SSNIT self-service portal, you can now apply for or request a Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) number online. Obtaining a Social Security number is a requirement for employees in order for their employer to make contributions to their accounts.

How to register for SSNIT number online in Ghana

1. Open a browser on your computer and visit the SSNIT website here.

2. Move your mouse cursor to the menu section and click on “self-service“.

3. After clicking on the self-service, the SSNIT portal will open.

4. Click on “Member Enrolment”.

5. Now, the online application form will open for you. You need to fill in all the spaces provided.

6. After filling in the required space, click on “submit“.

NTC Registration For 2024 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 1

The National Teaching Council (NTC) is mandated by Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (ACT 1023) to regulate the teaching profession in Ghana. As part of the Council’s regulatory functions, it is mandated to conduct examination for licensing of people who desire to teach.

The purpose of the Licensing Examination is to enable qualified teachers acquire a professional licence and to ascertain whether candidates meet the demands of the National Teachers’ Standards on professional knowledge, practice, values, and attitudes necessary to deliver effectively in schools.

  1. Eligibility for relationship examination.

  • Candidates who wrote the traditional Ghana teacher relationship examination(i.e., as soon as your professional skills literacy and numeracy) bet were unsuccessful in some papers may register to re-sit
  •  All prospective candidates who hold a Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) and the desirous of becoming professional teachers may register to sit.
  • A candidate is eligible to write 2024 GTLE 1 only when he/she has a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
  • Candidates with foreign degrees shall provide a certificate evaluation report from Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to prove their eligibility.

2. Form of the Examination

All fresh candidates shall write three papers which comprise the

i. General Professional Knowledge paper. This paper comprises numeracy, literacy, and essential professional skills contents.

ii. Grade-level Specialism Pedagogy paper. The pedagogies are differentiated by levels of specialisation. That is, Early Grade or Early Childhood, Primary and JHS, SHS/SHTS and Technical Vocational Schools.

iii. Multiple Subjects Content or Single Subject Content Knowledge (subject specialism).

a) Multiple Subjects Content: prospective teachers who are trained for Early Grade/Early Childhood or Primary levels will write Multiple Subjects Content Paper.

b) Single Subject Specialism: prospective teachers who are trained for junior high, senior high or TVET will write one paper in their areas of specialisation.

3. Content Areas and Tables of Specification

Indexing Process

i. Visit https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh to check your status to determine whether your data have been uploaded onto the portal by your training institution before starting the indexing process.

ii. If a prospective candidate’s details have been uploaded, he or she shall be indexed before registering for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.

iii. An indexing fee is Fifty Ghana Cedis (GHC50.00)

iv. Payment can be made at any branch of Prudential Bank Ltd national wide or Mobile Money payment can be made through the short code *772*51# across all networks by using your colleague or university index number.

v. After successful payment, you receive a message on your phone that contains your name indexing number and filter and instructions.

vi. If you do not receive an indexing number, you can use your MOMO or bank transaction ID to visit the indexing site to retrieve your indexing number by clicking on retrieving your index number’s button.

vii. Use the indexing number to register for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.

4. Indexing Process for Fresh Candidates

i. Visit https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh to check your status to determine whether your data have been uploaded onto the portal by your training institution before you start the registration process.

ii. If your details have been uploaded, you shall be indexed before registering for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.

iii. An indexing fee is Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH⍧50.00. However, re-sit candidates shall not go through the indexing process.

iv. Payment can be made at any branch of Prudential Bank Ltd nationwide or mobile money payment can be made through the short code *772*51# across all networks by using your college or university index number.

v. After successful payment, you will receive a message on your phone which contains your name, indexing number and further instructions.

vi. Visit https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh to verify your details by logging in with your indexing number received on your phone via sms. For the in-banking payment, if you do not receive indexing number immediately you can use your transaction number from the bank which can be found on the payment receipt to log in to verify your details.

vii. Use the indexing number to register for Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.

NOTE 1

i. A prospective candidate should make payment only when his/her details have been uploaded onto the indexing portal by their training institutions.
ii. A prospective candidate will not be able to pay for indexing at the bank or via the short code if he/she does not have a minimum qualification of a degree.
iii. Those who bought voucher for 2023 GTLE 2 (GTLE in September 2023) registration but were not successful in registering will have their pins and serial numbers activated for the registration of 2024 GTLE 1.

Registration Process

a) Fresh candidates shall pay four hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis (GH⍧450.00)
for three papers.

b) Candidates re-sitting a paper must pay GHȻ 150.00.

c) Candidates re-sitting two (2) papers must pay GHȻ 210.00.

d) Candidates re-sitting all three (3) papers must pay GHȻ 385.00.

i. Payment can be made at any branch of Prudential Bank Ltd nationwide or mobile money payment can be made through the short code *772*51# across all networks.

ii. Where payment is made at the bank, candidates must remember to take their Pin and Serial Number from the bank.

iii. Log on to exams.ntc.gov.gh
iv. Enter your e-voucher Serial number and Pin

v. Fill in all the fields and remember to upload your passport-size photograph.

 

NOTE 2

i. Any person who is not qualified or does not have his/her details on the examination portal and goes ahead to make any payment will not have a refund of the money.

ii. NTC will not accept any request for change of photograph after the examination.

iii. Review information provided before submitting.

iv. Print Summary of the inputs made.

v. Read the examination regulations and check the box before submission.

vi. Candidates should keep their Pin and Serial Numbers secured after registration for further use.
Candidates must complete their online registration not later than 20th February 2024

 

NOTE 3

i. There will be no extension in the time for registration beyond the 20th February 2024 deadline.

ii. Dress code should be formal or professional.

iii. No baby at the examination hall.

NOTE 4

The ongoing registration for the 2024 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 1 is for holders of Bachelor of Education or Post Graduate Diploma in Education only. Any holder of Bachelor of Education or Post Graduate Diploma in Education and has a referral in the traditional GTLE (Essential Professional Skills, Literacy and Numeracy) and wishes to write 2024 GTLE 1 must start the process afresh. However, any diplomate who has referrals in the traditional GTLE and wishes to write GTLE in 2024 and beyond must first obtain a degree.
