Flashback: Teacher Jailed 7 Years For Defilement

Tarkwa: Teacher Jailed For Defilement

The Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced Kingsley Acquah, a Ghanaian teacher to jail over defilement and impregnating a 15 year old girl, known as Acquah. The teacher has been sentenced to seven (7) years in prison with hardlabour.

Throughout the trial, Acquah vehemently maintained his innocence, but the weight of evidence proved insurmountable. Presiding over the case, Judge Hathia Ama Manu solemnly declared Acquah guilty, condemning him for preying upon the vulnerability of his young victim.

Superintendent Juliana Essel-Dadzie, the prosecution’s formidable voice, outlined a chilling narrative of exploitation and betrayal. The victim’s own mother, a seamstress by trade, stood as a pillar of strength in the face of injustice, bravely recounting the atrocities inflicted upon her daughter.

Acquah’s tenure at a local private school provided him with unfettered access to his victim, a final year Junior High School student preparing for her Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). As the victim and her peers sought sanctuary within the school’s confines, Acquah schemed to violate that sanctity, luring the unsuspecting girl into his quarters.

The prosecution painted a grim tableau of coercion and abuse as Acquah callously defiled the innocence of his young victim. The aftermath was stained with the crimson of her blood, a stark testament to the brutality of his actions.

Tragically, the victim’s torment did not end with the violation of her body. Unbeknownst to her, the despicable act bore fruit in the form of an unwanted pregnancy, shattering her dreams and robbing her of her youth.

Only when the truth emerged, shrouded in the shadows of sickness and suspicion, did the victim find the courage to speak out. Her mother, a beacon of unwavering support, rallied to her side, and together they confronted the horrors of Acquah’s depravity.

As the courtroom fell silent, the judge’s verdict echoed with the weight of justice served. Acquah’s imprisonment serves as a cautionary tale, a somber reminder of the insidious dangers lurking within our communities and the imperative to protect the most vulnerable among us.

WASSCE Grading System was introduced to assess students’ performance. The WASSCE grading system is based on the percentage of your total marks (continuous assessment which is 30% and the WASSCE, which is 70%).

It is very easy to calculate your WASSCE results. You only select 6 of your best results and do the calculation. This will help you when a particular university has set the cut off marks for its courses.

To calculate your WASSCE results properly, sum the 6 best subjects of your results. Including the four core subjects (Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, and Social Studies). Mathematics and English Language is always  a must subject among the core subjects.

If you intend to pursue a Science related programme in university, you need to include Science in your grading but if you do not, then you can consider Social Studies.

WASSCE results are usually divided into core subjects and elective subjects. The core subjects typically include:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics (Core)
  • Integrated Science or Social Studies

Elective subjects can vary depending on your chosen program but might include subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Geography, Literature, etc.

Using the grading system table provided above, convert each of your letter grades to their corresponding quality points.

To calculate your aggregate score, sum the quality points of your best six subjects. For university admissions, the three core subjects and best three elective subjects are usually considered. The lower the aggregate score, the better

Illegal Jobs That Could Get You Deported As A Student In Canada

Illegal Jobs That Could Get You Deported As A Student In Canada

Did you know that there are some jobs you do in Canada as an international student that could get you deported? Although Canada allows students to work part-time during their studies, there are strict rules regarding the types of work you can do. Violation of these rules may result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment.

Illegal Jobs That Could Get You Deported As A Student In Canada

Unauthorized work

In Canada, international students can work on a part-time basis even as they study, provided they hold a valid study permit that includes a work authorization. If this is done without permission, it would be regarded as unlawful and one risks being sacked. It is not uncommon for students to take on cash jobs, that is, earn with no official record of it. This is risky because if the government learns about this, you will be deported and your student visa will be canceled.

Work more hours than allowed

Most Canadian study permits allow international students to work up to 20 hours per week in school and full time during breaks, such as holidays. Working over that limit is technically breaching your visa conditions. Employers will sometimes offer additional hours for quick pay, but go over the limit and you are in trouble. This can be grounds for cancellation of one’s visa and possible deportation.

Doing things you are not allowed to do

Some jobs are considered out of bound for international students. For example, a student is not allowed to work in adult entertainment like strip and escort services. The punishment for this could be serious legal implications, which includes termination. It is crucial to make sure the activities that a student is going to involve themselves in fall in the cleared category.

This is an individual work without a license.
Some try to conduct their own business or freelancing. Nevertheless, independent work is prohibited for international students without special permissions. One more reason for disqualification may be acting as an intermediary without the corresponding license.
In short, it can be very costly to violate the employment laws of the country while one is working in Canada as a student and gaining relevant experience. Get the right permits, stay within the work hours, and stay away from restricted jobs that are meant for international students.

Why International Students Get Deported From Canada

Why International Students Get Deported From Canada

There are several reasons why international students get deported from Canada. This article will explain some of the main reasons and give you steps to avoid being deported.

Why International Students Get Deported From Canada

1. Violating Visa Conditions

Number one on the list is the violation of visa conditions. Every student visa comes with its terms and conditions. Violating just one condition may get you deported.

You need to meet all the conditions. If you don’t meet these conditions, you may lose your student status and study permit. You may also have to leave Canada. Some may include: change of school without following the appropriate steps. Authorities know you are in School A, but you changed it to school B, without alerting them.

2. Incomplete or Fraudulent Document

Another reason students get deported is because of fake documents. Before you get a visa as an international student, you surely need to pass through the Canadian embassy of your country. Sometimes, you may be given a greenlight even though your documents may be fake (unknownly to them). However, if you eventually gets your visa, you will surely be caught as the university you applied will once again work with the Embassy to do another investigations on your documents. You will surely be caught and be deported. Sometimes, you may face jail term.

3. Poor academic performance.

Just like other schools around the world, performing poorly in school will get you repeated. At the Tertiary level, you will be sacked. If you are an international student, you will be sacked and deported. So try as much as possible to give your very best in school.

4. Working more hours than you should.

Usually, students visas come with work permit. Sometimes, international students are allowed to work 12 hours or 20 hours a week. If you work above this duration, you will sanctioned, or deported. You simply needs to follow the rules.

5. Failing to renew study permit.

Every visa comes with an expiring date. Sometimes you may get 2 years student visa for your second degree. However, due to some circumstances, you may need another year to make it three years or more. In this case, you have to apply for a renewal of visa. Failure to do this will get you deported back to your country.

6. Engaging in illegal activities

You mission as an international student is to study, have fun and work within the given hours. Engaging in Illegal activities will get you arrested. You will be deported immediately. You may also be banned from entering Canada for over 10 years or for life

7. Failing to maintain sufficient funds for your stay.

You cannot get a student visa without proving to the embassy that you have sufficient funds and regular source of income that can cater for you stay in Canada and also pay for your tuition and bills. Once you prove to the embassy, you will get your visa. However, if you fail to maintain such funds in the duration set, and you go broke, you will be deported. In some cases, if person who is supposed to pay for your tuition fails to pay it in one academic year, you will be deported.
