BREAKING: Prince Tagoe granted GHC100,000.00 bail over fraud

Prince Tagoe, a former Black Stars player, is being tried for fraud by the Accra Circuit Court. The court has given him GHc100,000.00 bail with three sureties, one of whom should be a civil servant.

The judge, Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, told the court that one of the sureties could be a landed property.

On the charge of defrauding by false pretense, the former player has paid GHC129,000.00, which is the equivalent of USD 40,000 or GHC265,200.00.

The person who is complaining is Mr. George Antwi Boateng, who used to play football.
Tagoe has said that he didn’t do it.

Detective Chief Inspector Agartha Abena Asantewaa had already told the Court that Mr. Antwi Boateng, another former Ghanaian footballer, was living in Germany.

The accused person, Tagoe, used to live in Germany, the Prosecutor said. Tagoe was a player in Germany who was managed by the complainant, the Prosecutor said, and when the two met in Ghana in 2020, the complainant told the accused person that he needed to buy a 4X4 Lexus.

Detective Chief Inspector Asantewaa said that the accused person had agreed to import the vehicle for the complainant for USD40.000.00 USD, which is equivalent to (GHc265, 200).

The prosecution said that USD40,000 was put into the accused person’s bank account on January 8, 2021, and that the accused person called the complainant to say that they had received the money.

It said that the accused person then said they would give the car to the complainant on March 30, 2021, but they didn’t.

The prosecution said that Tagoe then called the person who filed the complaint and asked for two more weeks to bring the car back. The person who filed the complaint agreed.

The court heard that the two weeks were up, and the accused person still hadn’t been able to bring the car into the country as promised.

The prosecution said that on April 27, 2021, the complainant went to Ghana to get his car, but he didn’t get it. When the complainant called the accused person to demand the car, the accused person said that he couldn’t import the car because he had used the money for some important personal things.
