A bus carrying students from second cycle schools in the lower mid zone of the Volta Region caught fire at Akatsi. This incident happened on Saturday 7th October, 2023 at Akatsi Agbedrafor junction.
The fire destroyed the bus completely. Several items belonging to the student-athletes were burnt beyond recognition.
No casualties were recorded. All the athletes and the driver were able to get off the bus safely before the incident happened.

According to report, the bus belonged to Akatsi senior High School.
The student athletes from the lower mid south zone contingent were returning back after sports activities. They gathered for the 47th inter zonal festival at Sogakpe. So when the bus reached Akatsi junction, it caught fire destroying several properties and the bus completely burnt.

The Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service are currently conducting investigations into the matter so see the actual cause of the fire.
The Ghana Fire Service were quick to put out the fire. However, what has been destroyed by fire cannot be repaired. The bus is completely burnt.
Due to this, The sports festival, meant to foster camaraderie and healthy competition among young athletes, took an unexpected turn, leaving the community and participants in dismay and shock.
The bus was conveying students of Three Town SHS, St. Paul’s SHS, SOSEC etc from Sogakofe SHS where the Sport Festivals was held.
The Inter Zonal festival is an annual sports event organized between senior high schools in Ghana. It region or district in Ghana has its own way to conducting such festival. Here, senior high schools come together to compete each other. The winner is crowned and gifted with goodies. It is also an opportunity for students to showcase their sports talents.
