Business Executives for Ken Condemn Violence

The Business Executives for Ken (BEK), a group aligned with the ideals and aspirations of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has strongly condemned the violent attack that occurred during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) national ‘Thank You’ tour in Kumasi. The incident, which involved the stabbing of a student from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has raised serious concerns about safety and tolerance within the party.

According to reports, the unfortunate event unfolded in the Ashanti Regional capital when a group of men—believed to be associated with party vigilantes—attacked and stabbed a student thought to be a passionate supporter of Mr. Agyapong. This disturbing development led to the immediate withdrawal of Mr. Agyapong from the ongoing tour, citing safety reasons for himself and other key party figures.

BEK, which consists of business professionals who support Kennedy Agyapong’s political vision, expressed outrage over the incident. In a press release, the group criticized the growing intolerance within the party and called on all party members to embrace peaceful dialogue and mutual respect, especially during internal events such as the national tour.

“As a forward-thinking group committed to the progress of our democracy, we are deeply appalled by this act of violence,” the statement read. “Democracy thrives on the coexistence of differing opinions. It should not give room to physical harm against individuals simply because they hold contrasting political views. Such behavior is outdated, dangerous, and must be completely rejected within our political culture.”

The group did not mince words in its call for swift action from law enforcement. BEK urged the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough and immediate investigation into the incident, identify those responsible, and ensure that they face the full rigour of the law.

“We respectfully implore the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and decisively. Those behind this attack must be brought to justice without delay,” the statement added. “Furthermore, we encourage the police to enhance security measures during political tours and events going forward. Political engagement must never be marred by violence, and certainly no one’s blood should be shed for the sake of political activity.”

The ‘Thank You’ tour, intended to be a unifying exercise following the party’s primaries and other recent events, has instead seen rising tensions among prominent figures. Kennedy Agyapong, who was a contender in the party’s 2024 presidential primaries, has been at the center of some of the tour’s most heated moments. Another key personality, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC and the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, was also recently involved in a public altercation during the tour stop in Berekum.

Observers have noted growing divisions within the party, especially among supporters of different flagbearer hopefuls. BEK has therefore called on the party leadership to promote fairness and transparency as the NPP prepares for future leadership contests.

“We are appealing to the party’s leadership to ensure a level playing field for all individuals who have expressed interest in leading the party,” BEK emphasized. “There must be no favoritism or undue promotion of one candidate over others. The will of the grassroots, the delegates, and the people must be respected and upheld.”

The group also took the opportunity to applaud Mr. Agyapong for what they described as a responsible and courageous decision to withdraw from the tour in light of the violent incident. They viewed his withdrawal not as a retreat but as an act of leadership that values human life above political ambition.

“We commend Hon. Kennedy Agyapong for prioritizing human life and safety. His decision to step away from the tour shows his deep concern for peace and order,” the group said. “It is a mark of true leadership, one that places the wellbeing of supporters and fellow party members over personal political gain.”

Reaffirming their commitment to Mr. Agyapong, the Business Executives for Ken reiterated their strong belief in his capacity to transform the country. They described him as a visionary with the strength, courage, and integrity needed to lead Ghana into a new era of economic discipline and national development.

“We want to assure Mr. Agyapong of our unwavering support. We believe he is the right person to lead Ghana towards a brighter and more disciplined future,” the group declared. “His track record in business and politics has shown that he has the competence and the vision to drive economic growth and instill discipline where it is most needed.”

The group concluded their statement by calling on all stakeholders within the NPP—and the broader political landscape—to reject violence and embrace unity, fairness, and peace. They stressed that political competition should never devolve into hostility or brutality.

“Let us remember that politics is ultimately about service to the people,” the statement concluded. “We must build a political environment that is safe, tolerant, and truly democratic—one that encourages open dialogue, respects opposing views, and above all, protects every Ghanaian citizen.”
