C/R: SHS Student Poisons His 10-Day-Old Baby With Weedicide
The police in Assin Praso, Central Region, are actively searching for a teenage father, Godfred Nelson, aged 19, who is accused of poisoning his ten-day-old baby with weedicide.
Godfred Nelson is an SHS 2(soon to be an SHS 3) student from Assin Praso, impregnated his 16-year-old girlfriend in Adanse Praso. According to report, he repeatedly urged the girlfriend to terminate the pregnancy because he wasn’t ready to become a father.
When she refused and gave birth, he resorted to a desperate act and poisoned the baby with weedicide.
Upon returning from the bathhouse, the baby’s mother, Esther Baah, found her child crying uncontrollably. She attempted to breastfeed the baby but noticed unusual stains on the baby’s clothes and a foamy substance around the baby’s lips. Worried about her child’s condition, she rushed the baby to Assin Praso Presbyterian Hospital, where it was discovered that the baby had been poisoned.
Following this horrific act, the suspect went into hiding. Esther Baah, the teenage mother, allegedly admitted that she and her boyfriend initially planned to kill the child so they could continue their education. However, she had a change of heart due to the pain she experienced during childbirth, but she was unaware that her boyfriend hadn’t abandoned the plan to harm the child.
Currently, the baby is receiving treatment at the emergency unit of the Presbyterian Hospital in Assin Praso, while the suspect father remains at large. The police have been informed, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the suspect.
We hope the baby gets well. The suspect is currently on the ran and is being hunted by the Ghana Police Service.
