  1. Proper corporal punishment of errant children, whether in a domestic or institutional environment, is a legitimate way in which unacceptable behaviour may be demonstrably and effectively corrected. The fact that such punishment may be painful and humiliating does not impact upon its legitimacy. Many recalcitrant, recidivist children (including myself, back in the 1970’s) were transformed by a sound caning on the bare buttocks and are thankful that their elders and betters used such methods to assist with redirecting them away from thoughts and actions that may have led to more serious deviant behaviour in adulthood.
