Capitation Grant Has Been Halved This year
The latest Education News Update is that Capitation Grant has been halved this year for all public schools.
A Capitation Grant is an amount per pupil paid to schools to cater for various school expenditures incurred at school levels. This grant paid to the school is usually paid in arrears, sometimes up to about a year.
The capitation grant amount per student used to be Ghc4.5 in the year 2009, equivalent to about $3 in the same year. However, this amount managed to increase to Ghc10 in the year 2019, equivalent to $1.5 in the year 2022, half of the amount it used to be in dollar terms. According to Education Watch Boss, Kofi Asare, the grant is currently in heavy arrears spanning over a year waiting to be paid.
