“The Scheme as currently constituted provides newly qualified graduates the opportunity to have practical exposure on the job, both in the public and private sectors, as part of their civic responsibility to the State.”
The objectives of the Scheme
1. Encourage the spirit of national service among ALL segments of Ghanaian society in the effort of nation-building through active participation.
2. Undertake projects designed to combat hunger, illiteracy, disease, and unemployment in Ghana.
3. Help provide essential services and amenities, particularly in towns and villages of the rural areas of Ghana.
4. Develop skilled manpower through practical training.
5. Promote national unity and strengthen the bonds of common citizenship among Ghanaians.
From the above, the National Service can be described as an important milestone in the life of every graduate. Graduates who have been posted must ensure that their work goes in line with the objectives mentioned above.
It is an opportunity to apply theories and knowledge acquired in schools, gain work environment experiences, and develop and network with new minds and people with similar and divergent skills and backgrounds.
Cautions And Advice To All 2023/2024 National Service Personnel
National Service offers a great opportunity to build one’s work portfolio and help build our nation, Ghana.
#1. Sadly, some National Service personnel upon the commencement of their service entangle themselves with all manner of albatross such as dating bosses and owners with the hope of getting goodies and securing jobs with the institutions they have been posted to. Avoid all forms of amorous relationships with your boss, whether male or female.
#2. Stay away from amorous relationships with other managers and permanent staff.
#3. Do not be deceived by those in authority that they will provide you permanent jobs when you genuinely know you do not deserve it.
#4. Do not engage in any acts of criminality as service personnel in your office, at post, or when on any assignment.
#5. Let truth, ethical choices, and national interest lead you in all you do.
#6. Do not follow the crowd without asking questions about their actions.
#7. As a service personnel, take your work seriously and be professional in your conduct.
#8. Learn to save no matter what. If it is GHS100.00 a month, try your best. Open a savings account and deposit the amount every month.
#9. Do not get a withdrawal booklet, Visa, or debit card for this savings account. Do not also connect your savings account to your MoMo account. Remember, the target is to save enough and not to spend.
