The 2022 National Best Farmer award has been awarded to the best farmer over the last one year in a colorful celebration.

The day has been reserved every year for the celebration of farmers and the appreciation of their good work. As part of the celebration, the government awards one out of the many farmers with the title of National Best Farmer. Let us check out the award to the 2022 National Best Farmer.

This year, the winner of the title was Nana Yaw Sarpong Serebour. He is a 43-year-old farmer who hails from Asante Juaben. He has 22 years of experience as a farmer, He was celebrated at the event held at Jubilee Park in Koforidua in the Eastern region.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo was the Special Guest.

The matter of interst here is the award that was given to him.

He was presented with a cash prize of GHs 1, 000, 000. In addition, he was given a two nights’ full board complimentary stay for two at the Peduase Valley resort. This was too rewarding.

Meanwhile, John Mahama believes that it is about time the government starts investing in the farming business.

Former President John Mahama explained that government must now take farmers seriously because of the gradual worsening of the Ghanaian economy.

“With Ghana’s economy on the brink of collapse, as proven by Rating Agencies through their unending downgrades, and the hardship it has brought to many homes, this is the time for the government to begin to take farmers and farming-related businesses seriously.”

Mahama further explained that prioritizing the farming business will reduce the level of imports which will further have an impact on the exchange rate.

“This is the surest way we can reduce imports, strengthen the struggling cedi and save Ghana’s economy. I urge the government to prioritize agribusiness and support with favorable financing for farmers and all actors in the agricultural value chain.”
