Abena Kyeremaa Yeboah, the 2021 winner of the Junior Speller Spelling Bee Competition organized by the Born Heroes Foundation, has paid a visit to her MP Hon. Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah. After winning such a highly competitive competition, her school, Holy Cross High School, could not keep this only to themselves; hence the need to visit their MP, who doubles as the deputy minister for health, to show her the enviable trophy and the amazing prizes Abena bagged home on that fateful Saturday. The MP for Weija Gbawe constituency warmly welcomed them and congratulated them on a great job done.
The Junior Speller Spelling Bee Competition is in two categories. The Minor division is for grade 1-4, and the Prime is for grade 5-9. Abena Yeboah was in the grade 5-9 division. In the final round, Abena boldly spelt ‘bibliotheca’. But to the shock and admiration of all Abena spelt, the championship word, ‘ pneumoencephalogram’ with a lot of confidence and smiles.
Heavenly Abokuma Asafo-Adjei, a nine (9) year old class three (3) learner from Standard Foundation Academy, Santa Maria in Accra, won the grade 1-4 competition. The joy of the entire school knew no bounds when Heavenly sent the trophy to school. Mr. Frank Amoako Baffoe, the director of the school, said that, he was happy a student from their school had won such a competition. At least, it has given them proof that they are really doing something and that they will continue to keep up the good work. The school has given a full year scholarship to Miss Heavenly Abokuma Asafo-Adjei, who won the grade 1-4 competition after she has spelt ‘encapsulate’ and the championship word, ‘archaeologist’.
For such an outstanding performance, Abena Yeboah was given a tablet, trophy, laptop, school bag, dictionary, certificate, and a cash prize of two thousand Ghana Cedis. (2,000). Heavenly Abokuma Asafo Adjei received a cash prize of one thousand five hundred cedis along with other wonderful prizes.
Holy Cross High School has also visited the municipal director of education and the MCE to share this joy with them. The MCE was so proud of them for such an impressive performance and even promised to give them the MCE Award on the 6th March 2022. The director of education could not hide his joy as he congratulated the school on such an initiative and also motivated them to give much attention to such educative programmes since they have lasting positive impacts on children.
