EC’s Decision to Withdraw From NDC Elections Raises Precedent Concerns – Franklin Cudjoe
Franklin Cudjoe, author, social-political commentator, and founding President and chief executive officer of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education has expressed concern about the potential consequences of the Electoral Commission’s decision to withdraw from the National Democratic Congress’ election due to an application for an injunction.
He argued that the decision was politically motivated and not based on the law. Cudjoe suggested that this precedent may make it difficult for the EC to carry out its duties in the future, as it may face numerous injunction applications from “mischief makers” who seek to disrupt its operations.
Cudjoe also suggests that the EC may need to be prepared to postpone other elections or activities if served with an injunction application, which could further hinder its ability to carry out its mandate.
Ultimately, time will tell whether this decision by the EC will have significant consequences for its future operations and the integrity of the electoral process in Ghana.
EC’s Decision to Withdraw From NDC Elections Raises Precedent Concerns- The blog post by Franklin Cudjoe reads …
“Jean Mensah and her EC must be ready to live by the precedent it set today by pulling out of the NDC’s election because of an application for injunction. The decision was politically motivated and had nothing to do with law.”
“By this decision, the EC should be ready to postponed the Kumawu bye election immediatly it is served with an injunction application. The EC should be ready to halt limited registration exercise immediately it is served with injunction application. By this precedent, it will be difficult for the EC to discharge its mandate going forward. It will give room for mischief makers to disturb the EC with injunction applications. They think they are doing the NDC.”
