Free Senior High School will be permanent feature of Ghana’s education – Nana Addo

The President of Ghana,  Akufo-Addo stated on Friday assured Ghanaians that the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) will be made a permanent feature of Ghana’s education system. This according to him will ensure every individual who intends to study is able to do so.  

This was announced at the Jubilee House when the President interacted with 8 out of the 411 Ghanaian candidates also known who made 8As at the 2020 WASSCE for School examination.

The first batch of Free Senior High School students also known as Akufo-Addo graduates outperformed their counterparts from Nigeria and three other West African countries who write the WASSCE.

According to the President, governments committed investments into the popular Free Senior High School policy (Free SHS) has yielded results. 

“The investments in Free SHS have been worthwhile, and we are going to continue with it. We are going to make it a permanent feature of our educational system to make it possible for every young person who wants to study and grow to be able to do so,” President Akufo-Addo announced.

The president congratulated the students (Akufo-Addo graduates) for their excellent results and performance in the 2020 WASSCE for School Candidates.

The 2020 WASSCE for School candidates was delayed by the novel coronavirus pandemic until but the students did exceptionally well and won a greater chunk of awards presented by WAEC to students who excelled in the examination.

In a post by WAEC, the council said, for the first time 50% of Ghana’s WASSCE candidates obtained A1 to C6 in all core subjects.
