Farmer and Ex-Convict Sentenced to 7 Years for stealing Motorbikes
In a recent verdict, a 40-year-old farmer and former convict, Bebli Komlatse, has been handed a seven-year prison sentence for unlawfully entering a property and stealing two motorbikes. The ruling was delivered at the Hohoe Circuit Court, under the authority of Mr. Michael Johnson Abbey, with the case initially heard on July 25, 2023. Bebli pleaded not guilty to the charges during the trial, which subsequently reached a verdict on October 18.
During the proceedings, the court was informed that Bebli Komlatse had previously been convicted of the same offense. On April 20, 2011, he was sentenced to five years in prison by the same court for his involvement in a motorbike theft.
The case revolved around two direct brothers residing in By-Plan, a suburban area of Hohoe. On July 21 of this year, at approximately 11:58 PM, the complainants securely parked their Royal and Haojue motorbikes within their kitchen before retiring for the night.
In a shocking discovery, the first complainant awoke at 3 AM the following day and realized that their kitchen’s door had been forcibly opened. Upon entering the kitchen, they discovered that both motorbikes were missing.
The incident prompted the first complainant to immediately notify the second complainant. Together, they reported the case to the police. The two complainants initiated a search throughout the Hohoe and Kpando areas, hoping to locate their stolen motorbikes.

During this search, the second complainant stumbled upon the Royal motorbike, which had been taken to a local mechanic shop in Gbefi. At that moment, the convict, Bebli, was present at the mechanic shop. Upon spotting the second complainant’s approach, Bebli attempted to flee but was apprehended and subsequently delivered to the Hohoe police station, along with the recovered motorbike.
Unfortunately, the second motorbike had not yet been retrieved by the time the case reached its verdict.
Both motorbikes, which were reported as a Royal with registration number M-22-VR 273 valued at GH¢5,200 and a Haojue with registration number M-21-VR 3004 valued at GH¢5,700, were stolen as part of the incident.
This case serves as a reminder of the judicial system’s role in holding individuals accountable for their actions and ensuring that justice is served for victims of theft and unlawful entry.
