Gabby Otchere Darko Reacts To Saturday’s Attack On UTV

Gabby Otchere Darko has reacted to Saturday’s attack on United Television (UTV) by some alleged NPP thugs.
In his recent Facebook post, Gabby Otchere Darko made it clear that a television station or a show in Ghana has no obligation to be impartial. He added that such media can choose to use their media to tell lies or speak insults. What viewers or consumers can do (if offended by such programme), is to sue them or complain to the National Media Commission. He added that one cannot force a specific media house to be fair.

“A radio station or TV show has no obligation to be impartial. In fact some even choose to lie and insult. You may call them out, complain to NMC or sue them. But, you can’t FORCE them to be fair. Endure, enjoy or tune out!” he posted.
Having said that Gabby Otchere Darko added that a party is obliged to call out any media house “loudly but decently” if it “attacks without giving that party a right to reply”.
“A TV station is always free to use its platform(s) to attack a political party without giving that party a right to reply. Yea, if that station is ok losing credibility in the eyes of Ghanaians. The party has every right to call that station out, loudly but decently.” he said.
This comes after a group of individuals purportedly affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed the studios of UTV, causing an abrupt halt to the live broadcast of the popular show, United Showbiz
The shocking incident unfolded approximately seven minutes into the program.
Reports that emerged following the disruption of the show suggest that the intruders had entered the studio with hostile intentions. Their primary objective seemed to be confronting Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A Plus, a regular panel member on United Showbiz.

Subsequent videos shared on social media portrayed a chaotic scene within the UTV studio, with several men loudly demanding A Plus’s presence.
“We are waiting for A Plus today… A Plus has to explain to us why he tore our paper from the NPP party. We are here, we are waiting for A Plus. We are protecting our party property,” one of the men can be heard shouting in the studio
