GES Begins Investigation Into Tragic Death of Aburi Girls Student
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has initiated an investigation into the death of first-year student Stacy Okyere at Aburi Girls SHS
In addition to this internal investigation, GES has affirmed its commitment to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure an unbiased examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Stacy Okyere, who had been grappling with severe stomach pains, tragically passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024.

Reports suggest she was denied medical attention by the school nurse, who allegedly accused her of pretending to be ill.
Stacy was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The sequence of events leading to Stacy’s demise has sparked considerable scrutiny and criticism toward the school’s management, with the family alleging negligence.
In a statement released on Monday, GES extended its condolences to the bereaved family, acknowledging the gravity of the situation and expressing a commitment to uncovering the truth.

The Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late Stacy Okyere, a first-year student of Aburi Girls’ Senior High School. This sad incident occurred on February 4, 2024, after a short illness. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family during this difficult time.
The Director-General of GES, Dr. Eric Nkansah, today, Monday 12th February 2024, led a delegation to the school and thereafter to the residence of the bereaved family to commiserate with them. The delegation, among other things, inspected the school’s fifteen-bed infirmary and interacted with the nurses at the facility. Management has also deployed a nine-member team of Counsellors to beef up the Guidance and Counseling Department of the school to provide psychosocial support for the students and staff.
Meanwhile, internal investigation is ongoing and Management is also working closely with the law enforcement agencies to independently investigate the matter. GES assures our stakeholders and the general public of our continuous commitment to ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all students.
