GES confirms Reopening date for SHS1/TVET students
GES confirms the reopening date for SHS1/TVET students and there is not going to be an extension either. The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that all first-year SHS and TVET students who are enrolling in the various schools they have been placed in are to report to school on 4th April 2022.
This confirmation from the GES means parents would have to work within the available time and ensure their wards report to school. Stakeholders expected the GES to review the reopening date for first year students as a result of the delayed school placement released on 26th March 2022.
Students and parents have been knocking on the doors of the GES to move the reopening date forward however, the management of Pre-tertiary education have kept faith with their original reopening date for first years which was announced months ahead of the release of the 2021 school placements.
In an earlier post by Ghana Education News, we projected that giving that Easter starts in the middle of April, it was going to be difficult for the GES to push the reopening day forward unless it was ready to keep the students in school during the Easter break.
If the GES extends the reopening date, SHS1 students would report to school to commence the academic year on 11th April 2022 however, the 2022 Easter holidays are 15th to 18th. If students report to school on 11th April, they will have to go back home for the Easter break. Hence, the best reopening date for students would be 19th April 2021.
However, if the GES intends to keep students in school during the Easter break, then it would most likely opt for the 11th of April 2022 if it extends the reopening date for the SHS1 students.

Now that first year students are reporting to school from the 4th of April, it is not clear if they will be coming home for the Easter Break. We look forward to an official update from the GES on such matters.
