GES releases guidelines for December 2025 teacher promotion exams

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has released guidelines for the 2025 teacher promotion examinations scheduled for Monday, December 29, 2025 and Tuesday, December 30, 2025

1. Examination Status and Schedule

a) The promotion examinations will be conducted as scheduled.

b) Examination Schedule:

i. Monday, 29th December 2025 19:00 am – 12:00 noon Assistant Director II (AD II) and Principal Superintendent (PS)

ii. Tuesday, 30th December 2025 19:00 a.m.-12:00 noon Assistant Director I (AD 1) and Deputy Director (DD)

2. Shortlisting and Candidate Notification

a) Shortlisting was conducted strictly in accordance with approved eligibility criteria and documentation requirements. Consequently, some applications could not be considered.

b) All shortlisted applicants have received official SMS notifications indicating their Staff ID, Index Number, and the designated Examination Centre.

c) The official list of shortlisted candidates and their index numbers is available for verification at:

i. Regional Education Offices

ii. Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Education Offices All designated examination centres

d) A list of eligible candidates will be circulated to Regional Education Offices and examination centres a day before the commencement of the examinations.

e) Only teachers who have received an official SMS, or whose names appear on the shortlisted list, are eligible to proceed to the next stage of the promotion exercise.

a) Only candidates who have been issued index numbers are permitted to report to examination centres to write the examination.

b) Teachers who have not received an official SMS and have not been issued an index number must not report to any examination centre.

c) The examinations will be conducted strictly by index number; consequently, any candidate without an index number will not be allowed to write the examination.

4. Special Cases and Rectification

a) Teachers who obtained their last promotion or upgrading in or before 2021, met all qualification requirements, but have not received an SMS or do not find their names on the shortlisted list, are required to submit the following to their respective Regional Education Offices for further action:

i. A copy of their last promotion or upgrading letter

ii. Evidence or printout showing that they applied for the current promotion. This is to enable the Service to address any legitimate cases of omission.

5. Examination Day Requirements

a) Candidates must present a valid National Identification (ID) Card at the examination centre.

b) Candidates are required to clearly indicate their Staff ID and Index Number on all examination papers.

b) Management appeals to all teachers to strictly adhere to these guidelines to ensure a smooth, credible, and well-coordinated promotion exercise. Any further communication will be made only through official GES channels.
