GHC50 million released to WAEC by Govt for 2022 WASSCE, BECE
The information available to Ghana Education News indicates WAEC has received GHS 50 million from the government to conduct the West African Senior High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) slated for August 2022 and October 2022 respectively.
In an interview with the Ministry of Education Spokesperson, Mr Kwasi Kwarteng, he allayed the fear of the public and said the 2022 WASSCE and BECE would come off as scheduled.

WAEC has also confirmed receipt of the funds for the conduct of the two examinations. Confirming the receipt of the GHC50 million released to WAEC for 2022 WASSCE, BECE, Madam Agnes Cudjoe, the Public Relations Officer for WAEC, confirmed the release of the money to the Council saying “yes, it is true.”
This year’s WASSCE is expected to start on Monday, August 1, 2022, to September 27, 2022, for only Ghanaian students. In all, 422, 883 candidates will be writing the 2022 WASSCE from 977 schools public and private schools.

There were media reports that the Government owed WAEC a total of GHS23,011, 827.00 after the 2021 WASSCE and BECE and that the Government needed to pay GHS15,790,072 for WASSCE and GHC7,221,755 for BECE this year.
In a related development, the GES has disclosed that it is working hard to ensure that Ghana reverts to the May/June WASSCE in 2024.
