Global Teacher Prize 2023 Top 10 Finalists Deep Narayan Nayak From India
Deep Narayan Nayak From India Is One Of The Global Teacher Prize 2023 Top 10 Finalists.
For children living below the poverty line and without access to education, Deep Narayan Nayak’s creative teaching approaches have helped bridge the learning gap, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
When the schools closed, he used the mud walls outside people’s homes as blackboards and the roads as classrooms to educate the children, indigenous people, and economically disadvantaged students who would have otherwise been left behind because of the digital divide.
Teaching techniques he has developed have helped eradicate superstition among indigenous communities, sparked an interest in science, and enabled students to overcome obstacles like learning disability, Bibliophobia, dysgraphia, and dyslexia.
He has also made it a point to educate parents, particularly mothers and grandmothers, in an effort to break the cycle of illiteracy and improve the chances of first-generation students.
In impoverished areas, he’s helped advance women’s rights by creating initiatives to combat hunger, child abuse, and premature marriage.
His Mothers’ Football Team promotes sportsmanship, gender equality, and international peace, and his ‘Fantastic Three-Dimensional Model’ has helped countless people find education and work.
His ‘Through the Teacher at Doorstep’ programme has counselled kids and their guardians to reduce absenteeism and prevent school dropouts, and his emphasis on environmental awareness and sustainability helps discourage the use of plastic and promote tree-planting.
His passion for education, health, gender equality, world peace, and environmental awareness has led him to advocate for universal access to school and implement cutting-edge teaching methods that have successfully narrowed the achievement gap. He has been called the “Teacher of the Streets” and the “Raster Master” for his efforts to bring education to impoverished, isolated areas that lack basic infrastructure like schools, internet, roads, and homes.
His blackboard painting initiative has ensured educational access for low-income students, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and his ‘Raster Master’ project has successfully restored the right to education while addressing challenges faced by millions of children around the world, such as educational development, food security, women’s empowerment, the eradication of superstitions, and employment opportunities.
Deep Narayan Nayak thinks the ‘Raster Master’ project has tremendous potential to lessen the post-COVID impact on education, health, and employment, three of the world’s most pressing challenges, and that it has contributed to providing an inclusive education roadmap worldwide, especially for backward communities.
