Holy Child suffers heartbreak as Winneba SHS secures 5th spot in Central Region

The Central Regional contestants of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) are going towards sturdy zone, and with each competition, the interests goes high up, the heartbreak intense.
In the second competition of day two, it was Winneba SHS who won with an unbeatable show, gliding through every round to seal the fifth qualification slot of the contest. But for Holy Child School, it was a hurting replicate of last year’s results, pulling out over again at the regional level.
The competition started with familiar NSMQ pageantry: contestants from Holy Child School sat closest to the Quiz Mistress sequenced by Siddiq SHS, Obrachire SHTS, Boa Amponsem SHS, and Winneba SHS taking over the last seat.
The first round saw accumulations and narrow escapes. Winneba SHS took a preliminary advantage with 23 points, while Holy Child and Boa Amponsem were equaled with 15 points. Siddiq SHS and Obrachire SHTS fell behind with 9 and 8 points, respectively.
In the second round, Winneba SHS increased the difference, rising to 34 points. Boa Amponsem pulled ahead of Holy Child with 22 points, while Holy Child slightly decreased to 14, a point lower than their first round performance. Siddiq SHS managed 11 points, and Obrachire SHTS remained lodged at 8. In the round three, true or false, exhibited Winneba’s concentration. They had every question answered correctly, rising to 50 points. Boa Amponsem were next with 32, and Holy Child fought to keep 27 points. Siddiq SHS attained 18, while Obrachire observed slight improvement.
In the last riddle round, all but Siddiq SHS tried their best to give out answers. Winneba added 3 more points, finishing the contest with 53 points, sealing their qualification in a magnificent way. Boa Amponsem SHS ended with 38 points, and Siddiq SHS stayed at 18.
The dramatic twist came at the end. Holy Child School, at first blush a formidable opponent, weren’t able to qualify over again. For a second year continuously, their National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) journey comes to a stop at the regional level, in spite of a determined showing. As things settled down, important lesson became apparent: at the NSMQ, where you sit on stage doesn’t decide how far you’ll go.
Holy Child School, were sitting close to the Quiz Mistress, but were pulled out once again. Winneba SHS, sat at the last seat away from the Quiz mistress, won and gained a ticket to the national championship. Because in this competition of minds, to be successful is not about position; it’s about accuracy, devising, and the power to deliver and give out your best when there is tension.
