How To Change 2025 School Placement: Guide for unhappy students and parents

Do you know what to do if you DON’T like the school you have been palced in?
Do you need a Guide On How To Change 2025 School Placement?
If you answered yes, keep reading for all the facts and your chances of succeeding.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the 2025 Senior High School (SHS) placements, bringing both excitement and anxiety to many families.
While 82% of candidates, totaling 483,800 students, have been successfully placed, a significant 107,509 students (18%) were not matched with their initial choices and must now undergo self-placement.
It is unfortunate, but through the 2025 School Placement, some candidates have been placed in schools that they do not like.
What this means is that the student or the parents are not excited about the placement. Some of these students have been placed in their first choice and they think they do not deserve the first choice.
Others have been placed in an entirely different school they never chose or given day status when they wanted boarding.
If you find yourself in this situation, do not panic. In this informative post, we will break down the common issues and provide useful suggestions and guides for parents and their children.
Common 2025 School Placement Problems and Solutions
Placed in a Second or Third Choice School
Per the school placement regulations, students who are automatically placed in a school they chose during the school selection phase CANNOT change the school. If the school was on your list of choices (whether first, second, third, etc.), the placement is considered final and binding. It is nearly impossible to change this unless you have a Protocol slot to facilitate the process.
Placed in an Entirely Different School You Never Chose
There are instances where a student is placed in a school they are certain they did not select. For instance, a student who never chose West African Senior High ends up being placed there.
What to do: If you are not satisfied with this and have verifiable evidence that you did not choose the school, you can seek help. GES has established Resolution Centres at the District, Regional, and National levels.
- Contact your District or Regional PROs, Examination Officers, and Free SHS Coordinators.
- The National Resolution Centre is located at the GNAT Hall, Accra.
- You can also visit GES/TVET offices nationwide for assistance.

Placed in a Day School But Wanted Boarding
If you were placed in the day category for a school you selected, it is often because that option was chosen during the registration period. If you chose the school and opted for day accommodation, you cannot change the accommodation type online or offline. The school will also not alter this unless you can provide reliable evidence that this was not the accommodation type you submitted for consideration.

Placed in a Special School by Mistake
In rare cases, a student may be placed in a special school (e.g., a school for the deaf or blind) by mistake. Before taking action, parents must first verify if the school in question admits both physically abled and physically challenged students (a typical example is Mawuli Senior High). If the school does not, and the placement is a clear error, you should immediately visit a School Placement Resolution Centre near you to get the issue addressed.
