I once used my father’s name to get out of ‘trouble’ but ‘it didn’t work’ – Kennedy Agyapong Jr

Kennedy Agyapong Jr, the son of Assin North MP Kennedy Agyapong, has recounted a time when he tried to use his father’s name to get out of trouble but failed.
Kennedy Agyapong, the son of a Member of Parliament, is one of the founders of Afrochella, which has since been rebranded as AfroFuture. He has stated that using his father’s name did not get him out of a situation in which he found himself.
“I remember when I first came to Ghana, in 2014, I was going back [to America] for holidays,” he told Accra-based Hitz FM’s Andy Dosty on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. “I had a visa, but I didn’t realize that when the visa is stamped, it says ’60 Days,’ but you have to renew it.”
Kennedy Agyapong Jr. believed that because he had a five-year visa, he could “go [and] come” whenever he pleased.
“So, this is the first time I used his [my father’s] name, and it backfired,” he recalled, telling a story at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
“I was at the airport when the Immigration Officer informed me that my visa had expired. “I insisted it said five years, but he showed me that the 60 days I was given had passed,” he explained.
He explained how he became enraged and challenged the officer. According to him, he used the phrase “Do you know who I am?” for the first time.
When the officer refused to budge, he said, “I called Honourable [his politician father],” and demonstrated being on the phone with his right hand.
“The officer said to my father, ‘He overstayed,'” the Kencity Media Limited CEO, 33, recalled. “I had been in Ghana for a year and there was a penalty, which he [the officer] said was US$360.”
When his father spoke to the officer, Kennedy Jr stated, “Oh, let him pay the penalty.”
“I thought he was going to bail me out, but he told me to pay,” he said emphatically.
“They took the [penalty] money, gave me a receipt, and I was like, ‘Oh, man! “It didn’t work,” he joked.
