Dos and Don’ts for those Seeking For Employment
Read this carefully before you apply for any job vacancy and increase your chances of success.
- Always apply for jobs that match your qualification and direct experience. If you just keep applying for any job that you see, chances are that you will not be invited for an interview for any of them.
- Ensure that, you have at least three CVs for three groups of jobs you seek to apply for so that you do not keep sending the same CV to recruiters each time you apply for a job opening.
- Do well to read through your CV to ensure there are no errors. Use the job description provided by the company recruiting to update your CV before you email it to them. That will make you more competitive as you will match the kind of candidate they are looking for.
- Where the job is specifically for a person living within a given locality, do not apply if you are out of the locality. The chances of getting employed in such a situation are very low.
- Those applying for jobs must ensure that they are ready to relocate because there are jobs that will require that. Hence, if a job advertisement indicates that successful applicants will be required to relocate, but you do not want to relocate, it is best you do not apply for such a job.
- If you have a pre-written cover letter for all jobs, be careful to edit it well by taking a look at the date, the recipient’s email, and the address. Again, take a look at the heading of the letter and the position you are applying for and make the necessary corrections. Failure to do this may end up emailing a cover letter meant for another company, and that will bring to an end your question to get employed by the receiving company.
- When you see a job advert on Social Media such as WhatsApp, Facebook, etc., and you are interested, click the link to read about it. Do not leave comments like “I am interested”, What is the salary” All these show signs of seriousness as an applicant. If you want a job, you apply, you do not ask such questions on social media.
- Finally, keep your social media comments and post clean because companies check up on your profiles before and after interviews before making a final decision on you.
