John Mahama Names Running Mate Today. John Dramani Mahama, the leader and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is scheduled to announce his running mate today, March 7.
While there has been widespread speculation that Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang will be the chosen candidate, the official announcement will be made today.Certain biased reports on select news outlets, aimed at influencing the NDC flagbearer to select Madam Jane, were swiftly rejected by the NDC party’s base and other keen observers.
The announcement was met with resounding disapproval and rejection. The NDC party’s base is well aware of the challenges ahead for the NDC and is unwilling to compromise the party’s prospects for mere convenience.
According to a statement from Mr Mahama’s special aide, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, “Earlier this morning, Mr Mahama presented his nominee to the Council of Elders. Today’s event is a crucial step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming general elections.”

As per the NDC constitution, the party’s presidential candidate is required to nominate a running mate in consultation with the National Executive Committee and the National Council of Elders.
