Kintampo set to get new university: Boosting education in Ghana

Haruna Iddrisu, The Minister of Education, has given a clue that this year, he will submit a bill in Parliament for the setting up of a new university in the Bono Region. The upcoming institution, that would be named as University of Health, Agriculture and Life Sciences, would be established in Kintampo in the Bono East Region.
Mr. Iddrisu said “I plan to put forward that bill in Parliament immediately after Parliament reassemble so that those colleges in the vicinity and nearby Kintampo with capabilities for the commencing of a developed institution for the University of Health, Agriculture and Life Sciences will start in intensively.”
He cleared up that, the choice was in addition to President John Mahama’s willingness to ensure that each and every region in Ghana anchored not less that one ungraded university of studying.
Haruna Iddrisu released the clue when he launched the governing committee of the Simon Diedong Dumbo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), Wa in the Upper West Region in Accra.
The chairman of the 11-member of the governing committee is a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nandom and also former Defence Minister, Dr Benjamin Bewa-Nyog Kunbuor. He was given a duty to help the university to flourish and to boast about it place as one of Ghana’s superliner institutions of upgraded studying.
Changing of names. The Minister, restated the government’s stand to change to the initial names of institutions that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo changed when he was the President of the country.
He said there was a change in policy. “The names will change, and we planed to get a bill into Parliament for the names to be reversed to its original names to throw back the historical names of those universities. This does not mean we do not hold in high regard the offerings or supports of those people for whom those universities were named after”.
Again he said that, those who genuinely earned national prestige or glory would still hold and keep their honours. The minister showed how he cared about how the original names of the universities were changed, questioning, “ Truly the manner the names were reversed, where in the world do you see such an incident?”
