In Ghana, Parliament has approved all six ministerial nominees proposed by President Nana Akufo-Addo. After the Appointments Committee failed to reach a consensus on the nominees, the House voted to decide their fate. The voting process took several hours, but all six nominees were ultimately approved.
K.T. Hammond, Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, will become the Minister of Trade and Industry after he is sworn into office by the President. Dr. Stephen Amoah, MP for Nhyiaeso, will serve as his deputy.
The other approved nominees include Bryan Acheampong as Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, Stephen Asamoah Boateng as Minister-designate for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr. Osei Bonsu Amoah as Minister of State-designate at the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, and Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam as Minister of State-designate at the Ministry of Finance.
The Appointments Committee’s report on the nominees was debated in Parliament on Thursday, and the voting process took place on Friday, March 24, 2023. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, announced that 272 MPs took part in the voting process, while three were absent.
This approval of the ministerial nominees is an important step towards establishing a new government in Ghana. The ministers will be responsible for implementing the policies and programs of President Akufo-Addo’s government, and they will play a critical role in driving the country’s economic and social development.
Overall, the approval of the six ministerial nominees is a positive development for Ghana’s political landscape, as it paves the way for the government to begin working towards its goals for the country.
