Less Than A Quarter Of All Sim Cards Registered. Will the deadline of the National Sim Cards Registration be extended?

Less than a quarter of sim cards in the country are registered so far with barely two weeks left to the deadline of the sim card registration. There were a total of forty million, four hundred and fifty-four thousand and seventy-three (40,454,073) mobile voice subscribers as of December 2021. Also, there were a total of twenty-three million, four hundred and fourteen thousand, five hundred and twenty-seven (23,414,527) mobile data subscriptions as of December 2021.
However, with barely two weeks to the deadline of the National Sim Cards Registration, on 15th March 2022, only 9,744,071 have completed registration. This figure represents a little less than a quarter of active sim cards. A total of 13,676,648 cards have, however, been linked to Ghana cards, the primary Identity document for the National Sim Cards Registration. The total of sim cards linked to the Ghana Card, which comprise those successfully registered and those ready to be registered, is only about one-third of the active sims in the country.
Industry watchers would be taking a keen interest in the total sims that would be successfully registered since the market penetration is considered to be saturated, around 131.38%. also, there not yet any indication of the extension of the National Sim card registration which is simple and could be completed within five (5) minutes if all documents are available.

Just in case all unregistered SIM is blocked, the various Telcos will be at the losing end because that will reduce their customers who use the SIM cards for all communication and financial transactions. The TELCOS must therefore speak on behalf of their customers and ensure government extends the SIM registration to the end of the year,
