Dr. Stefania Forte we need to promote literacy. She made the call as her organization partner’s with Literacy Ambassadors Ghana(LAG) to promote literacy among some selected schools in Ziavi come Friday 26th March, 2021.
Below is her full statement
As a literacy advocate, my mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have interesting story books of their own so as to enjoy the power of books.
This is because reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success and hence the need for all stakeholders to work towards achieving adequate literacy for all children across the globe.
Learning to read accurately, fluidly, with good comprehension and stamina are crucial set of skills for school success. It is therefore, important early years of primary education are devoted to teaching kids to read using scientifically proven methods to ensure that all kids are reading at grade levels through literacy-related activities and programs.
Children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds in Ghana should be supported to acquire a very strong life-long habit of reading for pleasure so as to break the chain of poverty in their respective families.
This is because, it will only take literacy to reduce poverty.
The upcoming literacy promotion program for the selected schools within Ziavi is part of efforts aimed at equipping school pupils with basic literacy skills and a forum to instill the love of reading among them.
I am committed to literacy promotion efforts by Literacy Ambassadors Ghana and always ready to partner them in all programs aimed at equipping Ghanaian school children with basic literacy skills.
I am by this statement calling on all educators to take literacy promotion among school pupils seriously.
